        Dr. Sean Kay

Dr. Sean Kay teaches in the Department of Politics and Government at Ohio Wesleyan University. He specializes in U.S. foreign and national security policy, European security and international organizations. He is also the Chair of the International Studies Program.

    Sean Kay has previously held positions as Visiting Assistant Professor of International Relations at Dartmouth College, Assistant Professor of International Studies at Rhodes College, Research Fellow at the Institute for National Strategic Studies (US Department of Defense), instructor in the Department of Political Science, University of Massachusetts at Amherst; and worked on the International Secretariat of the North Atlantic Assembly in Brussels. He has been a co-recipient of a NATO Research Fellowship Grant and worked as a Visiting Fellow at the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London. While in the U.S. Department of Defense, Sean Kay worked on policy and analysis dealing with NATO enlargement, the Balkans, NATO’s internal transformation, and US-Russia relations. He also served as an advisor to the Department of State on NATO enlargement ratification/congressional issues. He received his Ph.D. with honors from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, specializing in international relations. He also has been a post-graduate student at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in Washington, D.C.; and holds an M.A. degree in International/Strategic Studies from the Free University of Brussels, Belgium; and M.A./B.A. degrees from Kent State University in Ohio.

   Recent publications include, NATO after 50 Years, ed., (Scholarly Resources, Wilmington, DE, 2001); NATO and the Future of European Security (Lanham, MD: Rowman and Littlefield Publishers, 1998) and "NATO Enlargement: Short-Term Gains and Long-Term Implications," in Susan Eisenhower, ed. NATO at Fifty (Washington, D.C.: Center for Political and Strategic Studies, 1999).  Sean Kay is the author of numerous book chapters and peer-review journal articles focusing on NATO and U.S. foreign and security policy including the journals Current History, International Politics, European Security, Mediterranean Quarterly, Security Dialogue, and Problems of Post-Communism among others.  He has written op-ed pieces for The Wall Street Journal Europe, The Washington Times, The Cleveland Plain Dealer, Akron Beacon Journal, and Defense News and is the author of several U.S. governmental studies.  He has been interviewed for or quoted by major television, radio programs, and newspaper articles including CNN Radio, Voice of America, Free Europe/Radio Liberty, WOSU Public Radio, The Christian Science Monitor, Defense News, Stars and Stripes, The Commercial Appeal, The Cleveland Plain Dealer, The Akron Beacon Journal, The Cincinnati Enquirer, The Columbus Dispatch, Akron Beacon Journal, Associated Press Reuters, and The New Your Times in addition to major European media outlets, Ohio News Network, and ABC, NBC, CBS, and FOX affiliates.  Sean Kay is a Member of the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London in addition to a number of professional organizations.
